Marcou & Marcou 207. This is the first geological map of New Hampshire and one of the first geological maps published by any state geological survey, preceded only by official maps issued by the geological surveys of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York. Earlier unofficial maps were also issued privately for other states though usually at small scale and format. In addition to geological formations, the map also shows the locations of various mines and mineral occurrences using symbols, including iron, lead, zinc, tin, copper, pyrites, silver gold, titanium, Tit. Iron (?), plumbago, beryl, mica, manganese, arsenic, and molybdenum. Lakes, ponds and rivers are shown and named; however, the map is otherwise devoid of topographic detail with the exception of scattered named mountains or ranges. Cultural details, including county and town boundaries; roads; and railroads, are also depicted. Condition: Folded, as issued, with light uniform age toning with some scattered toning spots limited mainly to the margins and some misfolding to left edge.
