Description: TOM SAWYER HUCKLEBERRY FINN Both books written by Mark Twain of course. Tom was published by the American Publishing Company of Hartford, Connecticut in 1890. Huckleberry Finn was published by Charles L. Webster, New York, in 1891. Both books are in the first edition bindings, but are later printings (Tom was first published in 1876 and Huck in 1885). The books have been rebound and restored to a certain extent, but are original for the most part. I have built a leather lined, cloth-covered slipcase with vignettes of Tom and Huck taken from the books on both sides. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are Mark Twain’s most loved books and the most read as well. First editions (1876 and 1885) of these books sell for thousands of dollars. Even books in poor condition will sell for more than I am asking for both of these. DESCRIPTION: 275 and 366 pages 8 3/4 x 7 inches first edition, later printing hardcovers with custom slipcase CONDITION: These books are in very good, restored condition. The books have been rebound and recased into their original covers. The cloth covers are clean, but have repaired edges, spine ends and some restoration to the gilding on the spine. The text blocks has been rebound with heavier duty cloth backing and then recased into their covers. The original endpapers in Tom Sawyer have been retained with the hinges reinforced with similar colored paper. Huck Finn’s endpapers have been replaced with similar colored, plain as the original, acid-free endpapers. The original spine caps for both books were reused. Many pages, especially in Huck Finn, have some restoration work on the edges. Authentic and archival materials have been used throughout--non acidic glues and pastes, nonacidic Japanese papers for reinforcing, etc. Make sure you see all 47 pictures as I have included representative pics of features and flaws. The pages of both books are toned with age and some of the paper is somewhat fragile. The bottom edges of most of the pages in Tom have a light water mark. The front endpapers have the original owners name and date as well as repairs to the edges. Huck Finn’s pages are more affected by acid-toning and show many smudges and stains as well. All pages and illustrations in both books are present. The slip case was constructed of acid-free materials and is lined around the edges with genuine leather. It is very heavy-duty and should last for many years. These books are capable of being held and read (with care of course) and will look very attractive on your shelf!
