Description: This is a pair of Spanish American War 1899 covers from a soldier of the 2nd Illinois Volunteers and sent to, Bucks County, Pa. You get both covers with your bid. One of the covers has an interesting handstamp "H. W. Bolton - Chaplain - 2nd Illinois Vols". H. W. Bolton, the 2nd Regiment's Chaplain wrote a detailed book about the History of the 2nd Regiment and the Illinois Volunteer Infantry after the mustering out in 1899. Both covers were sent to Miss Josie Ulmer in Bucks County, Pa. The cover with H. W. Bolton handstamp was sent in January from Havana as shown in the postmark when the 2nd Illinois was still in Cuba. The second interesting illustrated "Mustered Out" cover is postmarked April 8 from Georgia just after the 2nd Illinois shipped out of Cuba and arrived in Augusta on April 3. The information on the cover shows that the soldier was in Company B, 2nd Illinois Vol, Camp McKenzie, Augusta, Ga. Check the photos for more details. If you have any questions, contact me.
