This 1927 edition was the first in several printings that went up to 1945. There are eleven volumes of The Home University Bookshelf. Volume III contains old fairy tales, verses about fairies, modern fairy tales, stories from Scandinavia, Ireland, Britain, Japan, American Indian stories, myths of Greece and Rome, legends of the saints, legends of music and other fables and stories. There are wonderful illustrations throughout the book in both color and black and white by various popular artists. The illustrated endpapers are colorful and the tissue guard protecting frontispiece remains. These books were “prepared under the supervision of the Editorial Board of the University Society” of New York, USA. This hardcover book has 400 pages and has an embossed board cover that has a pictorial pastedown. This book is in fair to good vintage (almost antique) condition. The book shows some creasing and small tears to the internal pages. The boards show wear and slight blemishes and there is some fading to the front cover as well and writing on the front cover. There are some slight water stains on a few pages. The binding appears to remain firm. Dimension/size – this book is about 9 ½” x 7 ½” x 1”. It weighs two pounds 11 ounces.
