The Summit Inn at Snoqualmie Pass has been a family-run business for over 65 years. The Shoemaker family has worked hard to preserve the tradition, service, and friendliness of the hotel. In 1921, John Boyd Ellis quit his job as principal of Marysville High School, purchased a photo studio in Arlington and launched the Ellis Post Card Company. His real photo postcards were finely detailed images of the region’s scenery and civic centers. J.B. created his first series of downtown scenes on a tour of the state in the 1920s, then he went around again in the 1930s, and again in the 1940s. Sunset Highway: The Sunset Highway was a popular route for automobile enthusiasts and was included in the Yellowstone Trail route. The highway was improved with federal dollars in the 1920s, and remained open throughout the winter of 1931 for the first time.
