Description: 1934-36 Diamond Stars Baseball Lot - Burns, Chapman, Bridges, Adams, & Blaeholder On the Set - The 1934-36 Diamond Stars Baseball Cards (R327) was one of two baseball card sets concurrently issued from 1934-1936 by the National Chicle Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The companion set was titled Batter Up. In 1937, National Chicle was bankrupt, and its production of baseball cards, and of gum, ceased. Each pack of National Chicle gum with Diamond Stars baseball cards cost one penny. A defining aspect of the Diamond Stars set is the distinctive “Art Deco” front card image and vivid player background. A player biography or baseball tip is on the card back, credited to newspaper editor Austen Lake. The card size is 2-3/8" by 2-7/8". The card backs are printed generally in green ink for 1934 and 35, and blue ink for 1936. The first set (1934) had 24 cards, the second set (1935) had 84 cards, and the third set (1936) had 50 cards. However, the entire set has only 108 unique cards and players. Subsequent sets had duplicate players with updated statistics on the reverse.
