A fictionalized biography of Florenz Ziegfeld from his show business beginnings to his death, it showcases a series of spectacular musical productions. The film includes original music by Walter Donaldson and Irving Berlin. Luise Rainer, who played Flo's showgirl wife Anna Held, won an Academy Award. • • William Powell starred for years in the wildly successful movie series "The Thin Man" as well as in other successful motion pictures. • • Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, William Horatio Powell [29 July 1892 — 5 March 1984] was an American actor who became notable for his sophisticated, cynical portrayals. • • A major star at MGM, he was paired with Myrna Loy in fourteen films — — including the immensely popular "Thin Man" series in which Powell and Loy played Nick and Nora Charles.
