From the introduction: "Current developments in the Western European economy, particularly the trend toward economic integration, are pointing toward new traffic patterns to deal with the increasing travel and trade. The completion of a new, fast and economic transportation system between the United Kingdom and the Continent would seem to be an immediately and urgently needed part of the newly developing overall pattern. A Channel tunnel is, therefore, in harmony with the current economic scene, and now is the time to provide it. Early this year it was agreed between Technical Studies, Inc., the American member of the Channel Tunnel Study Group, acting in behalf of that group, and Bechtel Corporation, Brown & Root, Inc., and Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc., that our three companies would make a study of the Channel Tunnel project and report our findings. This report on The Channel Tunnel presents our combined considered judgement concerning the design, construction, cost and schedule for completion of the tunnel project best suited to handle the traffic indicated to be available."
