The window sweeps attach to the top of the door on the outside and the top of the door panel on the inside, they wipe or sweep the door glass as you roll the window up and down. If your windows are loose or if they rattle then this could be the problem, they also help keep water and debris out of the doors so they won't rust out. The 1981-1988 Monte Carlo could have come with 2 different styles of outer window sweeps. Some cars had the chrome strip attached to the outer window sweep and some had the chrome attached to the door. This set is for the cars that have the chrome attached to the inner & outer sweep, if you remove your outer sweep the chrome is attached to the sweep. We stand behind the products we sell.
