Admiral Karl Donitz & German U-boat Commanders WW II Signed Autographs Display

Description: Listed for auction is a stunning framed display which contains the autograph of Grand Admiral Karl Donitz along with the autographs nine [9] prominent U-boat commander who served in the Atlantic during World War II. Karl Donitz [1891 1980] was a German Naval Commander during World War II, who attained the rank of Grand Admiral and was appointed as Commander in Chief of all submarines. He was credited with implementing the submarine tactic Rudeltaktik, commonly called wolf pack. On April 30, 1945, in accordance with Hitler's last will and testament he was named President of Germany and Commander of all German Forces. On May 6, 1945, he ordered the surrender of all German forces thus ending World War II in Europe. After the war he was found guilty ''crimes against peace'' at the Nuremberg Trials and was sentenced to ten years in prison and was released in 1956. The display is centered around a page [5.50 x 8.00 inches] which is imprinted with an Iron Cross and is signed by the following U-boat commanders, Erich Topp U-boat 57, Helmut Witte U-boat 159, Kurt Anton Dobratz U-boat 1232, Klaus Scholtz U-boat 108, Peter Erich Cremer U-boat 152, Otto Kretschmer U-boat 99, Wilhelm Schulz U-boat 124, Hans-Werner Kraus U-boat 83, and Reinhard Suhren U-boat 564. It is a rare grouping signed by prominent U-boat commanders and mounted to the right is a formal color naval portrait of Admiral Donitz which has his autograph signed ''Donitz'' in blue fountain pen mounted below. The autograph is signed on a vintage First Day Issue postal cover, postmarked 1955 and is in fine condition. The autograph has been authenticated by JSA Authentication and will be accompanied with a Letter of Authenticity. Mounted to the left are two color photographs, a German U-boat on patrol and the view from a German pericope of a sinking Allied ship. Also contained within the display is a Kriegsmarine Cap Talley [quality reproduction], and two [2] Kriegsmarine Submarine War Badges [quality reproductions]. The last item is a professionally engraved plaque, ''Grand Admiral of The Kriegsmarine Karl Donitz'', the plaque contains the names of the U-boat commanders along with the following, During World War II, Germany launched over 1000 U-boats into combat implementing the Wolfpack tactics developed by Admiral Donitz. Prowling the Atlantic Ocean, these U-boats waged a commerce war which severely limited Britian's ability to continue her war effort. Together, they sent over 2,000 ships and over 14 million tons of Allied shipping to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The display has been professionally triple matted in a blue linen outer matte and accented with a gold and a black inner matte. The framing is quite unique, it is a heavy wood frame that has the appearance of a black iron bar with rivets and the display dimensions are 27.00 x 26.00 inches and it is stunning.
