Description: Free eBay listing template designed by dewiso.com Antique 1906 Chinese Bronze and Enamel Cloisonné Selling a rather special heirloom - an antique Chinese cloisonné vase. This piece has been in my family's collection ever since my great, great grandfather purchased it off of a Chinese import/export boat bound for San Francisco in the year 1906. I'm told this boat was positively brimming with jade, ivory, fine lacquerware, silk, and tea. Dimensions can be found towards the bottom of this listing. The underside of this vase has the word "CHINA" engraved directly into the brass, but does not say "MADE IN", and there's some neat historical reasoning for that. In 1890, America passed the "McKinley Tariff", requiring that all import products were to be marked with their country of origin. The McKinley Tariff's stipulations were rather vague, requiring little more than a single word to denote said country. It was the Tariff Act of 1930 that built upon those original rulings, ultimately leading to the seemingly universal "MADE IN" that we're accustomed to seeing on import products today. This vase was crafted only 16 years after the McKinley Tariff, and 24 years before the Tariff Act of 1930. I find that little tidbit amusing! The vase is made with a strong bronze construction, overlaid with a beautiful layer of hand painted enamel. Every aspect of this vase is in fantastic condition given its age, spare for a small/medium sized dent (pictures #6 and #7) with some localized enamel loss. This dent was the result of my great grandfather's short lived foray into the great sport of indoor amateur bowling when he was a small child, much to my great, great grandmother's dismay. In all seriousness, I think this spot adds to the vase's aesthetic. An absolutely gorgeous piece. Due to the age and relative rarity of this beautiful piece, exceptional care will be taken during the packaging process. I'll also be including a small handful of my favorite imported lychee candies as a thank-you!
