MacLeish (1892-1982) served in the U.S. Army during WWI, lived in Paris in the 1920s, worked as the Librarian of Congress, was a Professor at Harvard, and won three Pulitzer Prizes for his writing. J.B. is a retelling of the Biblical Book of Job, and in 1959 won both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.
