Description: Ideal Doll 14" BETSY MCCALL - Vintage VERY RARE Find: Used in "Like new - just out of the box condition." (EUC) Betsy McCall was released in 1952 by the Ideal Toy Corporation. The 14" doll came with a perfect beginner sewer's project pattern to make aprons. The outfit our Betsy is wearing is made from that pattern. The hat was made by my grandmother. She crocheted a doily and then starched it to hold its shape. The entire outfit is made from suggestions in the beginner sewer's project pattern. :-) Our original Ideal's Betsy has a vinyl head sculpted by Bernard Lipfert and has a hard plastic body. She has a saran wig and she retailed for $ 7.95. The original model was sold until 1954. In 1957 the American Character Doll Company obtained a license to produce Betsy McCall dolls. Our Betsy McCall doll (made between 1952 and 1954) has: "McCALL CORP" imprinted at the base of her neck - back AND "IDEAL DOLL P-90" imprinted in the middle of her upper back. Our fourteen inch Betsy has a hard plastic pale skin colored body. Her movable head and limbs are made of smooth hard plastic. The head, legs and arms are secure to the body. She will stand on her own, however, I always have her on a doll stand (included) to keep her from being damaged. She is mark and blemish free and has no shines or odors. Her complexion is light.Betsy's eyes are brown/gold with a sweet, pensive gaze. She has soft eyelashes that match the color of her hair. Her lids open and close smoothly. Molly has long brown hair styled in pony tails tied with white ribbons on the sides of her head and thick blunt bangs. Betsy's Outfit (one of the first homemade outfits that came with her patterns) comes with white bloomers, white lace socks and white slip-on vinyl shoes. Her dress is a pink and white checked pinafore style with a lace collar and puff sleeves. Over the dress is a white apron style pinafore that ties at both shoulders. It has tiny embroidered flowers on the apron. These items have had very minor touch ups. (Ex - elastic on the bloomers needed to be adjusted to keep it from slipping, etc.) However the touch ups are not visible and have not changed the original character of the outfit. In addition, there is a stiff straw hat with a large brim surrounded by a pink ribbon that ties in the back and is secured with three pink flowers. No boxes available and all are in like new condition.
