Description: Maker and age: This wonderful scalloped floral plate has the red decorator's backstamp number 6 of Elite Works, also known as Bawo & Dotter, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. According to the third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, this mark was in use between the 1880s and 1891. The porcelain itself was produced by the renowned Limoges firm A. Lanternier, which produced and decorated high quality porcelain from around 1880 until just after World War 1. The Lanternier white ware mark number 3, in use from 1891 to 1914, also appears along with an impressed variation of the same mark. Design: In keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made Limoges porcelain so famous and so coveted, the scalloped plate features finely detailed pink and blue flowers and is beautifully accented in gold. Size: It's 8 1/8 inches wide and weighs 11 ounces. Condition: It's in overall excellent condition for its age with no marks, nicks, cracks, stains, repairs, crazing or significant wear. There is a shallow chip on the back edge - shown in the photo with the red arrow - and light wear to the edge and design. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description. The US Postal Service is reporting an unprecedented volume of packages and reduced staff levels due to the ongoing health situation. Though we will ship promptly, there may be significant delays in delivery. Please take this into account when ordering.
