Description: Antique wooden throne chair built from traditional joinery techniques, and finished in red lacquer. The red “paint” is made from crushed Cinnabar mixed with lacquer. Small size chair, but surprisingly it held my weight, felt very sturdy and was quite comfortable, despite the fact that it initially looked like it was made for a large child!? Built using traditional joinery which does not use nails or other metal fasteners; however, at some point a repair was made, and a single nail was used on one of the front legs. The restoration artist did cover their tracks by matching the paint perfectly as you can not see where the nail went in, but the sharp end comes out underneath and can be seen when looking for it. Two joint areas have lost most of the red lacquer and the bare wood underneath can now be seen. Close ups can be seen in the pictures. Chair is 26” tall, seat is 11” from the ground and has 15” x 10” of seating space. Stool or foot rest is 8” tall, and 10” x 5” across the top.
