Description: A piece of American newspaper history! The COLUMBIAN CENTINEL was an influential Federalist newspaper published in Boston, called by some the most enterprising newspaper in the state. The paper's publisher, Benjamin Russell, was a thorough-going Federalist, and made his paper the leading Federalist organ in New England. The front page begins with an Act of Congress "...providing an annual allowance for the Education of Hugh Mercer." which is signed in type by the President; Go. WASHINGTON, and also by: Th. Jefferson as Secretary of State. Also in this issue is news from the British House of Commons on the War with France. Also "Queen of France" references the death of her husband. And also: "Paine's Reasons for Preserving the Life of Louis Capet" [Louis XVI]. Notices of the day, sales and purchase, classifieds. Prominent are the sale of sailing vessels! So, so interesting and historical overall. Four pages, nice condition. Check out photos! Happy to answer any questions. I have other Centinels pre 1800 available for purchase and can combine shipping. Local pickup for thorough examination is available as well. Am willing to sell all I have in one lot purchase if desired :)
