Description: Dresden Hand Painted Watteau Scene Red Maroon Raised Gold Chocolate Cup & Saucer Beautiful porcelain empire form chocolate cup and saucer. The cup is decorated with a hand painted courting couple framed by raised gold gilt scrollwork. The background of the cup and saucer are a dark red maroon. With gold beaded lattice/net designs along the top of the cup on the sides and back. Also has beaded gold lattice/net designs above raised gold floral scrollwork around the edge. Gold leaf design over white on the bottom of the cup. The inside of the cup has gold lattice/net designs with floral swags. Gold gilding to the edge. Gold gilt medallion in the center of the saucer. Marked on the bottom with a blue H in a triangle above Dresden. This mark was used by Heufel in Dresden between 1900 and 1940. Has some minor wear to the gilding, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. The cup measures approximately 3 5/8 inches wide including the handle x 4 3/8 inches tall. The saucer measures approximately 5 1/4 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece.
