Edmond OBrien discovers hes been slipped a slowacting poison, then spends his final hours trying to find out who killed him. And, maybe more importantly, why. OBrien is excellent as the corpsetobe. So are Beverly Garland and Neville Brand. Dmitri Tiomkins great score and Ernst Laszlos moody camerawork help set the pictures cynical, sinister tone. Location shooting on the streets of Los Angeles and San Francisco add immeasurably to the overall effect. Beat the Devil Beat the Devil is a witty, dryhumored, and wellplotted spoof of the classic capers popular at the time. The film, written by famed author Truman Capote, is centered on a group of four crooks played by Humphrey Bogart, Robert Morley, Peter Lorre and Gina Lollobrigida, all of which are traveling to Africa under the guise of selling vacuum cleaners. Their true motivation for the trip is to get rich off of uranium by smuggling it out of East Africa. Joining the group is a prim British couple claiming to run a coffee plantation there. It doesnt take long, however, for the couple to find themselves entangled in Bogarts devious scheme. But the trip doesnt go as smoothly as planned, and the African bound band quickly learns that their means of transportation a steamer is malfunctioning. This is the first incident in a string of misadventures and double crosses that come to a head when the uranium hunters wind up facing death at the hands of an Arab firing squad, unless they can devise a plan to Beat the Devil. Impact Millionaireindustrialist Walter Williams is marked for murder by his sexy young wife and her seedy lover. When the insidious plot ends in a fiery disaster, Williams is thought dead. In reality, he finds himself without a clue as to who he is or what happened. But as his memory starts to return, his shattered life becomes a runaway roller coaster ride of suspense and excitement! The Stranger Charles Rankin (Welles), responsible for unspeakable brutality in the Holocaust, is now living as a history professor in a small American town, with plans to wed Mary (Loretta Young), the daughter of a local judge. When an old comrade escapes prison and comes looking for refuge, Rankin quickly sees that its a plot to find him and kills the man. But a wily government agent (Robinson), who was behind the setup, fervently pursues Rankin and attempts to convince Mary of Rankins crimes, leading to an actionpacked confrontation you wont soon forget. Scarlet Street Christopher Cross (Edward G. Robinson) is a middleaged bank cashier and Sunday painter trapped in a loveless marriage to an insufferable shrew. He comes in contact with a sexy young hustler, Kitty March (Joan Bennett) and falls headoverheels in lovenot even realizing that she is a prostitute. When her sleazy pimpboyfriend Johnny Prince (Dan Duryea) comes to believe that Chris is wealthy, the two conspire to relieve him of his money. The plot twists and turns as theft and betrayal turn to murder and madness. Shock This postWorld War II suspense thriller sets off an emotional roller coaster after the psychologically fragile wife of a POW (Anabel Shaw) witnesses a brutal murder from a hotel window while waiting to be reunited with her husband (Frank Latimer). By the time he arrives, shes nearly comatose with shock. The hotels psychiatrist (Vincent Price) is called in to help. But just as she begins to recognize him as the murderer she saw, he realizes she was a witness to his crime. So he arranges to take her to his private sanitarium where he and his nursemistress (Lynn Bari) can insure that no one takes the young womans ravings seriously and they can secretly administer enough treatment to silence her forever. Meanwhile, her husband and the police begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems and as they get closer to the truth, this complex mystery takes some unexpected twists! Port of New York Yul Brynner electrifies the screen in his first starring role as ruthless and silky suave gentleman gangster Paul Vicola. Vicola runs a Yacht Club as a front for the east coasts largest heroin smuggling ring. Treasury Agents discover Vicolas mobsters brazenly sneaking the contraband in through Americas front door, New York Harbor, and plot a dragnet to bring down his criminal empire. Featuring K.T. Stevens as the pretty girl caught in Vicolas clutches and sweaty William Challee as an impish nightclub impresario who squeals on the wrong man, Port of New York is a tough and visceral crime film strikingly captured in cinematographer George E. Diskants stark noir camerawork. They Made Me a Criminal John Garfield is hard drinking boxer Johnnie Bradfield, who through a twist of fate, becomes the prime suspect in am murder case. Rather than take the fall for a crime he did not commit, Johnnie goes on the run, hiding out on a farm where a group of juvenile delinquents (The Dead End Kids) have been sent to work. Taking it upon himself to help set this group straight, the clock ticks as tireless detective (Claude Rains) closes in and the fate of the boxer and the future of the kids hang in the balance. Combining well choreographed fight and action scenes with the suspense and drama delivered by Garfield, Sheridan and Rains, director Busby Berkeley creates an exciting and sympathetic story of a life and redemption. Whirlpool A young wife is caught in a spiral of deceit, blackmail and murder. Terrified that her psychiatrist husband (Richard Conte) will learn of her frailty, Ann Sutton (Gene Tierney) attempts to cure herself with the help of hypnotist David Korvo (Jose Ferrer). However, Ann finds herself plunging deeper and deeper into a psychological abyss as Korvo, with a diabolical plan of his own, manipulates her subconscious mind. Quicksand Mickey Rooney stars as Danny Brady, a wellmeaning garage mechanic who falls for a waitress named Vera (Jeanne Cagney) who destroys his life in less than a week. After Danny takes $20 from the cash register at his job, with the full intention of paying it back, only to find himself in a downward spiral into which he is sinking deeper and deeper.Specifications: Rating: Not Rated Number of Discs: 2 Run Time: 905 minutesBonus Features: None specified Every item is in stock at our warehouse and ships the next business day.We guarantee your orders safe arrival, and will replace any lost, damaged, or defective item.Within the USA: We offer US Postal Service delivery, with tracking (delivery confirmation).
