Description: Specimen bonsai- 21-22 year old specimen fukien tea tree. 19” tall. 10” professional series ceramic pot FUKIEN TEA (CARMONA) BONSAI The Fukien Tea is named after the Fukien of Fujien province of Southern China from which the plan originates. In its native land it grows as a small tree or scrub to twelve feet in height. The tree is found from India and Malaysia to the Philippines. The Fukien Tea has small white flowers that can bloom at any time and an attractive grey bark with darker elevated areas. If the flowers are fertilized they are replaced with a miniature red cherry. Contained within the fruit is one hard seed. With its beautiful small leaves, white flowers and red fruits, the Fukien Tea is a great addition to any bonsai collection and will last many years. Bonsai is the reproduction of natural (or mature) trees in miniaturized form. This art form has its origin in Japan and China where it has been practiced for centuries. With proper care, your bonsai will remain healthy, beautiful and miniature for many years to come. Since your bonsai is a living miniature tree, it will increase in beauty as it matures through the years. PLACEMENT SPRING, SUMMER & FALL The Fukien Tea will thrive indoors in high light and appreciates being kept outdoors during the spring and summer. If night time temperatures drop below 65 degrees we suggest that you bring the tree indoors in a brightly lit room that is at least 70 degrees or higher in temperature. PLACEMENT WINTER Once nightly lows begin approaching the 50 degree mark, it is time to bring your bonsai inside for the season. The ideal indoor location is on a window sill facing south. An east or west exposure is second best. A northern exposure will work, but will necessitate the use of "grow lights" to provide sufficient light to keep your bonsai healthy. Four to six hours of sunlight per day should suffice to avoid any decline. If you can provide more, so much the better. WATERING The watering of your bonsai must never be neglected. Apply water BEFORE the soil appears dry -- never allow the soil to become completely dry. It is a good idea to use a moisture meter until you get to know the requirements of your bonsai tree. Water should be applied until it begins running out of the holes in the bottom of your pot. It doesn’t really matter “how” you water your tree, but rather that when you are finished the tree has been well watered. HUMIDITY During the cold months, when your bonsai is inside, we recommend placing it in a shallow tray filled with a layer of gravel with water added. This provides extra moisture around the tree as the water evaporates and reduces the amount of moisture lost to modern heating systems. Keep spray bottles filled with bottled water nearby and mist anywhere from once daily to multiple times a day.
