Bostwick is quite sharp, but the original negative and prints were in bad condition. We have cleaned and restored the image as much as possible without compromising historical accuracy. The photo shows the B&O Railroad bridge about a year after is was destroyed by Confederate troops in June of 1861. We are looking across the Potomac River from Maryland toward Harpers Ferry.
