Description: Hobby Master Convair F-106A Delta Dart Interceptor "Cape Cod" No. HA3601, Vintage year - 2011, Scale - 1:72 Unit - USAF 102nd FIW, 101st FIS, 57-2494 "Cape Cod" Campaign - Massachusetts Air National Guard - Otis AFB, MA, April 15th,1982 - first received 26 Darts on April 28, 1972. Originally 57-2494, c/n 8-24-77, the 100th F-106th produced was assigned to the 95th FIS in Aug. 1959. On June 5, 1972, "57-2494" was received by the 101st FIS where it flew until it was retired to AMARC on Dec. 29, 1987 and stored as FN163. It was later converted to a QF-106 target drone that was shot down by a Stinger missile on Aug. 27, 1996. Markings - silver with USAF markings including 72494 in black on tail with blue and white markings for the Cape Cod unit. "Cape Cod" is written in white on armament and includes a black nose with various USAF markings under canopy. Kit includes pilot, attachable armament and stand. Model - Convair F-106A Delta Dart all-weather interceptor aircraft designed in response to the 1964 interceptor program. It was a development of the F-102 Delta Dagger and commenced as the F-102B before being redesignated as the F-106. It was designed without a gun or provision for carrying bombs, instead carrying its AIM-4 Falcon air-to-air missiles within an internal weapons bay, its clean exterior was beneficial to supersonic flight. Major differences from the F-102 included the adoption of the more powerful Pratt and Whitney J75 turbojet engine, heavily redesigned air inlets along with a variable-geometry inlet duct to suit a wide range of supersonic speeds, application of the area rule to the fuselage shaping, and a general increase in size. The Dart was withdrawn from USAF service during the 1980s as the arrival of newer air superiority fighters such as the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle made the role of dedicated interceptors obsolete Condition - new with minor wear on box Thank you for your interest.
