Description: Listed for auction are the autographs of aviation pioneers Holger Hoiriis and Otto Hillig signed on commemorative aviation postal covers. Holger Hoiriis [1901 1942] was a Danish American who was a noted pilot who set numerous endurance and distance records who began his aviation career as an acrobatic and barnstormer in the 1920's. Otto Hillig [1875 1954] was an aviation pioneer and pioneer of aerial photography who along with Holger Hoiriis completed a flight across the Atlantic Ocean. The flight left from Newfoundland on June 24, 1931, in a Bellanca Pacemaker aircraft named Liberty which was named after the hometown of Hillig in New York. The Liberty landed in Copenhagen on June 26, 1931, with 5 gallons of gas left in her tank after 33 hours of flight. The autographs are signed as follows, ''Otto Hillig'' in black fountain pen and ''H. Hoiriis'' in purple fountain pen. The covers measure 6.50 x 3.75 inches, with trivial toning/edge wear otherwise they are in fine condition. The autographs are authentic, uncommon and are nice examples of these aviation pioneers.
