Description: Orren Mixer was born in Oklahoma City in 1920. After attending public schools, he obtained a scholarship to attend the Kansas City Art Institute from 1938-40. After graduating, he worked in graphic arts in New York, Oklahoma City, and Fort Worth, Texas, before joining the U.S. Navy. Stationed in Chicago, he was a visual aids graphic artist. In his personal time, Mixer painted Western scenes and made his first sales through a Chicago sporting goods store! Mr. Mixer’s celebrity as a well-known western artist really took off in the1950s and 1960s. Livestock became his specialty and his work graced the covers of Western Horseman, Quarter Horse Journal, Cattleman, and Oklahoma Today magazines. In 1968, the American Quarter Horse Association commissioned Mixer to paint “the ideal American Quarter Horse,” and six other breed associations followed suit. He has used the love of animals that he developed as a child working with horses, mules and cattle in his art and spent the last 50 years producing commissioned paintings of horses, cattle and friends. Sadly, Orren passed away in 2008 at the age of 87.The traditions and survival of the Texas Longhorns were always important to Orren. He was raised hearing stories from his father about trainloads of longhorns shipping through his hometown of Sedalia, Missouri. In his beautiful painting, "Good Mama", you can see his deep love and appreciation for this hardy animal of yesteryear. This is the artist at his best! "Good Mama" is a well known, iconic masterpiece. Nearly 40 years old, this gorgeous print is highly coveted and sought by collectors and a rare find, indeed. During the mid-eighties and through the nineties, I operated a wholesale art framing company that was well-known throughout Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada. I supplied various retailers with premium, matted and framed art. Because of my experience, knowledge and reputation for high quality, I was chosen to be the exclusive supplier to radio / television personality, Bob Eubanks, during his many appearances on the Home Shopping Network. My association with Bob Eubanks Productions continued for many years, including as a popular exhibitor at the NFR Cowboy Christmas Gift Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
