Judy LARSON " Ghost Wind " Limited Edition PRINT Wild Native Horses ART Camo

Description: JUDY LARSON " The Ghost Wind " 1000 Signed and Numbered Limited Edition Giclee Canvas 17" Height x 28" Width image size MINT CONDITION Piece Biography The first offering in The Noble Spirit Series It has been said that in the early mists of dawn they were invisible; in a snowstorm, undetectable; in battle, unseen. Then, like the spirits for which they were named, they inexplicably appeared. Ghost Wind horses carried big medicine. Along with their stealth, they were exceptionally intelligent. They were trained to be fierce combatants, but, like warrior-poets, they were also renowned for their complacent and docile nature. Their value to the tribe was known to be greater than that of any human. Distinguishing each Ghost Wind were two to four or a handful of dark spots, but only on its left side. "Lightening" or vanishing stripes graced the cheekbones of the face. The skin of the body was silver white, the hair more like fur and dark "stockings" covered the legs. The direct father/son breeding line traced back to the Northwest's Siletz and Talimook peoples, who bred their horses with Russian (as opposed to Spanish) spotted horses. Quite rare, they did not appear in every generation. Considered to be forever wild, a Ghost Wind was never "owned," but simply watched over by a caretaker or custodian. Still, its training was intense. It could be counted on to continue an attack against a foe, even after its rider had fallen. Yet, directly after battle this forceful warrior would be placed in the care of a nine or ten-year-old child. Such was the training and nature of this remarkable horse that, returning directly from the violence of warfare, a small child could handle it. A noble spirit, indeed. The Noble Spirit Series Concealed imagery has long been a hallmark of a Judy Larson composition, a second part to the story she tells in any painting. With "The Ghost Wind," however, both the portrayal, as well as the story, begin and end with the beauty of, and the passion for, the unique horse itself. The Noble Spirit Series will interpret the nature of legendary North American animals without the aid of concealed imagery.Judy LarsonLook Closer... The time-consuming art of scratchboard is unparalleled in its detail, allowing Judy Larson’s seamless concealment of imagery within her subject. Judy Larson always knew she was going to be an artist. She was surrounded by them as a child, and was particularly inspired by her father, a professional illustrator. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Commercial Art from Pacific Union College in Northern California, Judy Larson then spent the next 17 years as a commercial artist, illustrator and art director. In 1988, influenced by her love of nature and animals, Judy devoted her time to wildlife art. Her primary focus in each of her paintings is the animal, with the horse and wolf as a recurring subject. Larson uses a clay-coated, Masonite backed art board called Claybord®. To produce an original drawing, she paints the subject solidly with black India ink to create a silhouette. Larson then scratches away the dried ink using hundreds of X-Acto® blades and the result is a magnificent, lifelike image. Once the subject has been totally scratched, it is a finished black and white illustration, ready for Larson to add color. Larson prefers a combination of airbrush, gouache or acrylics for adding rich layers of color, with frequent rescratching for detail. For Judy Larson, whose underlying message is always passionately ecological, her medium of scratchboard, as well as her "art of concealment™," allows her "to take the viewer with me." Explains Larson, "My desire is to engage viewers on three levels: first, by revealing the beauty of animals through intricate detail; second, by concealing a hidden image that draws the viewer to examine the painting more closely and through which I can tell a story; and third, by promoting a deeper awareness of the environment on a level that will hopefully have an impact." Larson is extremely passionate about her love of wildlife and supports a number of environmental endeavors. Two books have been published featuring her work: Hidden Spirits, Search-And-Find Scenes from the American West, a Random House children’s’ book, and The Spirit Within, a coffee table book. Larson is a member of the Society of Animal Artists. She lives and works in California. This is a limited edition Canvas. It is in perfect, mint condition.
