Description: For the next few weeks I will be listing assorted 19th & 20th century paper and ephemera from an estate in Manchester, New Hampshire. There will be early letters, documents, postcards, vintage photos, advertising, etc from the Manchester/Concord area, as well as other early ephemera from throughout New England - some dating back to the early 1800s. I frequent local auctions and estate sales up and down the east coast where I pick up lots of fun old stuff and list almost all of it on Ebay. Check my other auctions for more early ephemera and other fun old stuff. All items guaranteed to be vintage and original. THIS ITEM: This is a large photographic print on heavy cardboard backing, 10.5 by 13.5 inches. It's signed Kimball at the bottom. Howard A. Kimball was a prolific photographer who opened a studio in Concord, N. H. before the Civil War. This is a photo of an etching of the old NH State Capitol Building as it looked before renovations around 1864. This is not a 19th Century image, and I'm not sure just how old this image is. I'm now 74 and I've been collecting local NH items since I was in high school. I honestly don't remember where or when I got this one. There are tack holes in the four corners, but it still displays very nicely and would look great framed. See my other auctions for three more of these Kimball images and other fun old stuff! Title: Kimball Photograph Portfolio, approximately 1865-1929Kimball, Howard A., 1845-1929 From Kimball's own notes: "In making this series of pictures it was first planned to make some of the governors and noted New Hampshire people of historical interest, but it has later developed into a complete set of all the Governors since the State became independent, and it is the only complete set in existence aside from the oil portraits in the State House. In addition to the portraits have been added photos of many buildings of historical interest which adds greatly to the value of the collection which is without doubt the most interesting and valuable the "Kimball Studio" have ever issued." As Kimball says, there are formal photos of New Hampshire governors, ending with Huntly Spaulding in 1929. An assortment of nineteenth-century political figures and colonial officials are also represented in photographs of statues and oil paintings. Kimball also documented buildings: there are images of New Hampshire Capitol buildings as well as of the New Hampshire Historical Society." CONDITION: Complete and intact with the four small mount holes, no creases, rips, stains, or other damage. Displays very nicely. Check all my photos and email with any questions.
