Following a year in the U.S. Congress, Wayne, at Washington's request, emerged from 'retirement' to lead an expedition in the Northwest Indian War. Following the 1794 Battle of Fallen Timbers and a subsequent scorched earth campaign of destroying villages, he negotiated the Treaty of Greenville which ended the war.
