Description: Stunning miniature portrait of a child, restoration era. Watercolor and sepia portrait. Signed Hollier, this is the miniaturist portrait painter, Jean-François Hollier (1772-1845). He was a pupil of David and Isabey. He exhibited at salons from 1802 to 1826. He was awarded a gold medal in 1817 and a second in 1824. He was a great success and made many miniature portraits, among the most famous being that of the comedian Talma and the tragedian Miss Duchesnois. He ended his career in 1840, having gone nearly blind and died in poverty. After his death, a sale of miniatures, drawings and prints was held in Paris. Portrait of this young child is in very good condition. There is no frame. His hairstyle dates him to around 1823-1824. Another miniature portrait is also for sale in my Ebay shop. It must have been the same child a few years later, at sight of the hairstyle, 5 years later, circa 1828.
