Wells (1950-present) is a well known Northwest Coast First Nations artist, who has won numerous international awards for his work. His Haida style paintings are particularly representative of the style, and are often painted onto hand-crafted shaman drums, as well as hand carved boxes and other household items. Wells is a member of the Gitsen Clan of the Tsimpshien, and was born in Prince Rupert in 1950. He belongs to the Blackfish (Killerwhale) clan of his tribe, and has traveled extensively, lecturing in schools and universities about Northwest Coast art, as well as other topics.
