Description: This coin features the profiles of Norwegian King Haakon VII (foreground) and King Olav V (background). Both were instrumental in the country's valiant resistance to Nazi occupation in WW II—Haakon as king in exile, Olav as crown prince and military officer. Haakon was born Danish, but was selected to be Norway's new king in 1905 after Norway seceded from a long union with Sweden—but without royal heirs. Olav, Haakon's only child, was born in 1903. He grew up steeped in Norwegian traditions, graduated with honors from the military academy, and became an accomplished skier and sailor, winning a gold medal in the sailing regatta of the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Olav viewed himself as "the People's King," and avoided excessive privileges of the crown. Several years after his death in 1991, a popular poll voted him "Norwegian of the Century." His role, and the crucial role of his wife Princess Martha, in lobbying President Roosevelt for aid to Norway were portrayed in the 2021 television drama, Atlantic Crossing. The obverse also is engraved with "Alt For Norge"—All for Norway. The reverse shows a large V for victory with the word "Frigjoringen" (Liberation) engraved over it. Slightly circulated, with very sharp images.
