Description: Old Cabinet PHOTOGRAPH, Man Posed In AMERICAN INDIAN FEATHER HEADDRESS Outfit Click images to enlarge Description Interesting and unusual large black and white matte finish photograph measuring 10" tall by 7-1/3" wide - actual photograph measures 9-1/8" tall by 6-7/8" wide. Featuring a decidedly Caucasian man wearing full American Indian regalia including a huge feathered chief's war bonnet that cascades down his back, beautiful and bulky geometric banded and woven design trade blanket, beaded leg wraps with tiny metal buttons, and leather moccasins, he even holds a large carved peace pipe. Wish I knew the story behind the image ... back is marked with a hand written notation "ROBERT JOHNSON, FORMERLY OF THE STOCK YARDS". I'm guessing this dates to the 1930s - but could be a bit older. Mounted to an embossed, patterned stock paper, condition is fair - photograph has no tears, holes, or bends but has tan staining as shown - you can see tiny spotting when held at an angle mostly on the right side, a faint pencil mark by his left shoulder, and a white dot within the blanket area - looks like a spot of silvering - back is chipping around the edges with some small tears as shown - none of this reaches the image. Even with all the minor issues, it is still an amazing and unusual piece - as a historical record of American Indian clothing or just to display for the visual interest - it would be a neat addition to any collection and perfect when framed!
