The original Filene Center burned down in 1982, reopening in 1984. This medal comes with the original box. Marked Medallic Art Co NY Bronze. The reverse reads: The future of our arts depends on the intelligent understanding of our people, Accepted from Catherine Filene Shouse by Act of Congress 1966. size: 57 mmweight: 86.65 g From Wikipedia:Catherine Filene Shouse (June 9, 1896 – December 14, 1994) was an American researcher and philanthropist. She graduated in 1918 from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. She worked for the Women's Division of the U.S. Employment Service of the Department of Labor, and was the first woman appointed to the Democratic National Committee in 1925. She was also the editor of the Woman's National Democratic Committee's Bulletin (1929–32), and the first woman to chair the Federal Prison for Women Board.Shouse was a strong supporter of the arts and served as chair of the President's Music Committee's Person-to-Person Program (1957–1963). In 1966 she donated her personal property, Wolf Trap Farm, to the National Park Service.
