Description: This is a rare, antique guy strain insulator. This strain insulator, used on the support structures for overhead electric railway lines, was found in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. Fort Smith had trolleys starting in the late 1800s. First they were drawn by mules, but had been electrified by 1893. It's highly likely this antique piece was a part of the trolley line in Fort Smith. Strain insulators are used on guy wires supporting utility poles or radio antennas to break the electrical path and prevent short circuits or grounding. This is a rare piece. Most surviving examples are in museums or private collections. Thanks for having a look at my listing. I truly appreciate your time. Please reach out if you have any questions or feedback. I will respond as promptly as possible.
