Description: Rare, Original early 19th Century Russian Icon of the Old Testament Trinity. This colorful Icon is a traditional Russian Orthodox illustration of the Trinity based upon God visiting Abraham in the form of Three Visitors in Genesis Chapter 18. Iconographic images followed strict Orthodox rules for the painted illustrations. This Trinity visitation contains Icon elements of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit seated in unity to a meal offered by Abraham and Sarah. In the background is the Tree of Mamre, Abraham's House, and Mt. Moriah (where later, Abraham will be tested to offer his promised son Isaac). These elements of the Genesis 18 story were first painted by the famous Russian Medieval Icon painter, Andrei Rublev, about 1411 A.D. This Icon closely resembles Rublev's original masterpiece painting displayed at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The words written in the top of this icon are for the Old Slavonic Russian (pronounced Stazh Troitsa) meaning Holy Trinity. Acquired in Russia in 1993. From and original Russian Orthodox iconostasis.Dimensions: 12.25 in. x 10 in. x 1 in.
