Steuben is an American fine glass and crystal brand known for making the highest-quality decorative collectibles. The company was founded in 1903 in Corning, New York which is in Steuben County. This is, in fact, likely one of the last pieces ever made by Steuben (manufacture date on the bar code appears to be 9/8/2011) as they closed in 2011 after 108 years in business. Exquisite care was taken when making this colorless piece. The hot worked, clear crystal sculpture has a high refraction index and radiates light from every angle. The bat is perfectly proportioned from the End Cap and Barrel through the Tapper all the way down to the Grip. The bottom of the Knob is signed "Steuben" with a diamond-tipped pen. So spectacular is this item, that a damaged version (accession number 2011.4.214) is part of the collection at the Corning Museum of Glass. You will receive exactly what is pictured, a pristine bat with no chips, cracks or scratches. The accompanying black wooden stand has a lined bottom to avoid surface scratching.
