Description: Revolutionary War Period Militia KnapsackInspired by the French military knapsacks of the 1750s (French & Indian War era), this colonial militia knapsack would be suitable for many patriot impressions. The main body of the bag is a combination knapsack and haversack. It features two large compartments. The quarter-fold bag design is spacious enough to accommodate all of the soldier's necessary camp provisions, rations, and extra clothing. Wearing the bag is straight forward. One inserts all of his necessary items into one half of the bag, then folds over the extra material which acts a protective layer. When picked up by its strap for wearing, the bag folds in half again (over the strap). Rope, twine, or leather straps can be added to the outside of the havresac to help maintain its shape on the march if desired. A painted ground cloth or oilskin can be draped over the bag making it water resistant, or the exposed flap may be treated with other period waterproofing methods. Made from durable natural colored canvas, this knapsack has a genuine black leather strap and period correct brass buckle.
