Description: SAVING OUR HISTORY, RONALD REAGAN PERSONALLY OWNED & USED AT HIS BEL AIR HOME SIGNED CHRISTIE'S TAG. FEATURED IN 89TH BIRTHDAY PHOTO. R. Reagan Owned Ginori Soup Bowl, Same China Pattern Featured in 89th Birthday Photo.A functional yet elegant soup bowl personally owned and used by former 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) and First Lady Nancy Reagan (1921-2016) at their Bel Air, California home. Manufactured by Richard Ginori in the "Bianco White" pattern and "Vecchio Ginori" shape, with the backstamp reading, "Richard / Ginori / Italy." Originally sold at Christie's in New York City, September 19-28, 2016, with a Christie's auction sticker affixed to the underside of the bowl. Expected light surface wear, else near pristine. 1.5" high, 8" in diameter. This soup bowl was manufactured by the respected Italian pottery firm of Richard Ginori. The company was originally founded in 1735 by Marchese Carlo Ginori under the name of the Doccia Porcelain Manufactory, located at Doccia, near Florence, Italy. Now known as Richard Ginori, the firm was acquired by Gucci several years ago. The "Bianco White" pattern is Richard Ginori's most famous pattern, an interlaced basket weave design dating back to the 18th century. It is one of the top-selling whites in their collection. The Reagans can be seen using a Richard Ginori dessert plate of the exact same pattern and shape at his 89th birthday celebration in 2000 (see photo included just for reference.) After Reagan's Alzheimer's Disease diagnosis in 1994, he was rarely photographed, and this is believed to be one of the last photos of the former president shared with the publicNancy Reagan was well known for her interest in elegant designer classics and the Reagan's choice of dinnerware was no exception. Her seamless talent for entertaining and hosting transformed the aura of style and sophistication of the White House. “She felt the White House should exemplify the best,” said Mark Weinberg, who worked on Ronald Reagan’s campaigns, in the White House Press Office. The first lady handled her life both in and out of the White House with the same conviction, and this stunning piece from their personal dinnerware collection personifies Nancy Reagan's attention to style and her love of timeless sophisticated design. The Reagan auction saw record prices for a celebrity, including about $200,000 for cowboy boots and $100,000 for a sheet of Presidential doodles. This incomplete set was purchased with the hope that individual items could be offered, so as to share something intimate, private, and Presidential with clients who might not wish to own a large group. "From her first private event as a White House hostess (President Reagan's surprise seventieth birthday party, which was mistakenly announced by Tom Brokaw on the Today show that very morning), to the state dinner with Mikhail Gorbachev that marked the unofficial end of the Cold War, to John Travolta's surprise dance with Diana, Princess of Wales, Mrs. Reagan has seen it all."
