Description: Bromo Seltzer was the popular cure for headache and hangover pain during the 1890s and early 1900s. The distinctive round blue bottle was a great trademark and set them apart from other cures of the time. The product took its name from a component of the original formula, sodium bromide; each dose contained 3.2 mq/teaspoon of it. Bromides are a class of tranquilizers that were withdrawn from the U.S. market in 1975 due to their toxicity. Here we have a set of the 4 sizes they came in. Going from smallest to largest we have the single dose at 2 ½” tall and 1” in diameter with a great big bubble and whittle effect and number 10 on the bottom. The second stands 4” tall and 1 ½” in diameter with a 13 on the bottom and a nice shoulder bubble and lip flaws. The third is 5” tall and 2” in diameter with nothing on the bottom and some lip lines and flaws. The fourth stands 6 ½” high and 2 ½” in diameter with a 5 on the bottom. This one is an early machine made bottle around 1920 where the other 3 are in the late 1890s. All are boldly embossed “BROMO-SELTZER EMERSON DRUG CO BALTIMORE MD”. These are in dug condition and the soil has stained them inside and out but there is no glass damage. The stains make them look their age and there is some iridescence that is interesting. It’s a nice set of an early cure bottle and makes a great addition to your blue bottle shelf.
