Description: Signed by the author and first edition, but not numbered as most of the first printings are. Hardcover with dust jacket (DJ). DJ condition is Fair, book condition is excellent for age - VG. DJ wrapped in mylar sleeve and backed with paper; DJ has large chunks missing on front, smaller chunks missing along edges and corners; rip along where DJ front meets spine (appears to be ripped all the way down, but held in place); spine sunned; moderate edgewear elsewhere; dark smudging on back of DJ; chipping along fore edges. Hardcover board corners bumped with fabric fraying; fabric on boards has light spots on front; spine fabric sunned with some splotchy color; small rips in fabric on top/bottom of spine. Bottom and fore edges of text block roughly trimmed. Hinges and binding tight - excellent condition for age. Previous owner pencil on ffep under author inscription. Pages lightly toned. Overall, text is clean and clear of writing/markings, and very handsome. A small number of the numerous photo plates have foxing spots which transfer to adjacent pages. On one plate, a small bit of the page got stuck to the opposite page and then opened, causing a small surface rip.
