Description: You know when you pick up a cane and immediately realize it's special? This is one of those canes. Russian made, circa 1880's, 35", a most unusual tapering burlwood shaft, and a stunning C-grip handle of niello silver overlay. It has silver studs of various sizes, all without a mark. They're mounted on a contrasting tear drop burlwood tip. The niello areas are unworn and its design is clear. So the cane saw very limited use, as these soft silver areas would be the first places to show. The shaft does have a slight age sway, but it is beyond sturdy. There is an ancient break about 6" above the ferrule that was repaired with an art that is lost today. The bi-metal ferrule is excellent. I won't be mad if this one doesn't sell.
