Description: The Brotherhood Of Eternal Love, "From flower power to hippie mafia: the story of the LSD counterculture.Stewart Tendler & David May,Pub: Cyan, SECOND edition, FIRST printing. 2007 I had the privilege of working with David May in the 1990s. He told me Tales of Beatnik Glory from his time working in the UK Hippy Underground press. I have a signed copy of the original1984 edition (with a photo I took of him standing next to Ken Kesey!). I bought this re-issue when it came out, but didn't read it as I'd already read the original book. Thus, the condition is unread with tight binding, clean pages, no rips, tears or scribbles. Sadly, David died in 2019. He'd be tinkled pink that this book is now a treasured cult classic. On researching prices for this book they vary from £140 to £470! So, I'm going about halfway with this listing. First published by Panther Books, Granada Publishing, 1984, this book became an instant bestseller, and later on, a cult classic (not least because it was rumoured that the book was banned, or 'allowed' to go out of print, making it a rare item). Now updated and containing new material, it tells a brilliantly researched story of a group of idealists fascinated by the potential of LSD to improve the quality of life. Called a hippie mafia by police, The Brotherhood of Eternal Love came to symbolize the rise of LSD, the growth of the psychedelic movement, and the heady, optimistic, revolutionary days of the 1960s. . Born in the psychedelic California counterculture of the 1960s the Brotherhood and its allies transformed the world with LSD. In a few short years they spanned the globe from Laguna Beach to Afghanistan in a secret underground society which generated millions of dollars. Founded by John Griggs, who Timothy Leary called "the holiest man ever to live in this country," the Brotherhood became the biggest group of acid dealers and hashish smugglers in the nation. Contains period B&W photographs of "Farmer" John Griggs, Johnny Gale, Timothy Leary, Augustus Owsley Stanley, Nick Sand, Tim Scully, Dr. Albert Hofmann, Billy Hitchcock, the Brotherhood ranch at Idylwild, the Millbrook mansion, and the 1972 California Department of Justice Wanted Poster of 26 fugitive BEL members.
