Description: A nice selection of 5 volumes by the great Wessex novelist and poet Thomas Hardy in limp red leather bindings, all part of the "Thin Paper Edition" published by Harper in the 1920s. The books are in Good to Very Good condition, with some of the leather displaying chipping and a bit of flaking and splitting. The top page edges are gilt, and the gilt on the spine is generally bright. Some of the volumes contain ownership signatures or a bookplate, but the contents are generally clean. The dust jackets depict a photographic portrait bust of Hardy enclosed in a circle against a light red woven pattern background. The dust jackets are in Fair to Good+ condition and show significant chipping and areas of loss, especially on some of the spines. The jackets are now covered in removeable protective mylar. Please view the photos closely as they depict the condition of these volumes. The titles included are: A Pair of Blue Eyes, 1929, 454 pp. The Return of the Native, 1929, 507 pp. The Mayor of Casterbridge, 1925, 406 pp. A Group of Noble Dames, 1929, 292 pp. Jude the Obscure, 1924, 488 pp. It is uncommon to find a group of these volumes in the fragile dust jackets from this Thin Paper Edition.
