Description: This vintage hand carved,hand painted table top carousel horse is set in a jumper pose meaning all four hooves are raised off of the floor. When the head is thrust upward in this pose the horse is often referred to as a "stargazer". The wood used for this carving,which I made in 1992 and is excellent condition,is basswood. No dings,scratches,etc. The design for this carving was inspired by the work of Gustav Dentzel and Charles Carmel,two of the most revered carousel animal carvers during the Golden Age of the Carousel (1880-1920). The horse carving is 17-1/2" in length,16" in height and 3-3/4" across the body. The black base is 8" in diameter and 1-1/2" in thickness. Acrylic paint was used to paint the horse as well as the base. A clear coat of acrylic varnish was applied for surface protection. Note: For shipping purposes this table top size horse is double boxed and has extra packing material and the box is therefore slightly heavier.
