Description: Vintage French Painting, Rouen, Normandy, Gros-Horloge, Clock,Renaissance Arch, Gothic Belfry, Fountain, Signed, 1947 This charming vintage French painting on paper glued on board depicts the famous “Gros-Horloge” in Rouen, Normandy, a 14th century astronomical clock installed above a Renaissance arch. It was listed as a Monument Historique in 1862. On the right are the Gothic belfry and a fountain representing a mythological scene. Figures are in the street. Nearby is the Rouen Cathedral, renowned for having been the subject of paintings by Claude Monet.The painting is signed “R. Chandler” and dated “47” (1947). In good condition there is evidence of an old tear in the paper on the lower righthand side and a fold in the middle, both made before it was glued to the board.
