Description: This is a J. Russell Green River Indian knife, 19th century. The Green River Works in Connecticut was founded in 1832, and the knives became the most popular among the western indians and frontiersmen, leading to the expression "Give it to 'em up the Green River". This knife is very old and has clearly been used and resharpened many times over a period of over 100 years. Has a really beautiful petina. Tang stamp is not visible, but this knife has been identified as Green River Works by the previous owner who was a collector and enthusiast for early 19th century American made cutlery & knives. The handle has a metal guard and wood scales with steel pins. This is a very rare piece. 5.25” blade, 9.75” total length.
