Description: Fortune-telling sidewalk scale made by American Scale Mfg. Co. of Washington, DC. Not sure of the exact age, but I believe the company manufactured scales from the 1920's into the 1940's. On this model, you put a penny in the slot next to your birth month, and it calculates your weight and gives you a fortune or character reading. It is a solid piece -- metal with a red enamel top, and the platform looks to be brass. It is roughly 51 inches tall, 16 inches wide, and 27 inches deep. Our kids and their friends loved this when they were growing up and hung out in our basement. It is not working now for some reason, though, so it needs restoration. Unfortunately, I am not very mechanical. In good shape otherwise for its age.
