Description: 'Surrey Woods' English Landscape etching by William Holmes May dated 1895. William Holmes May; 1839-1920, English etcher and member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, exhibited 105 etchings at the society's annual exhibitions and editor of 'English Etchings' This fine etching is bright and unfaded with excellent detail, tonal qualities and black intaglio ink lines, the image size measuring approximately 20 cm x 14 cm (8 x 5½ ins.) within a fine but evident platemark and impression on a laid paper sheet size of 23 cm x 17 cm (9¼ x 6½ ins.) Signed and dated in the image and signed in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. Unmounted and unframed, the condition of the image and sheet is is very good with handling marks condusive with age.
