Type & Size: A 4.5x3.5 original photograph.Condition: Good vintage condition. Please see photos. The back side has remnants of having been glued into a scrapbook. This photograph captures a dynamic scene from the Battle of Peleliu during World War II, taken in 1944 by a U.S. Marine Corps soldier. It features vessels engaged in combat, with smoke billowing from explosions in the background. The image illustrates the intensity of naval operations as forces fought for control of the island, showcasing the chaotic conditions faced by soldiers on both land and sea.The Battle of Peleliu was a significant and brutal conflict, part of the Pacific campaign. It took place from September to November 1944, with the U.S. forces facing fierce resistance from Japanese troops entrenched in the island's rugged terrain. This battle is often noted for its heavy casualties among American forces, with the Marines tasked with seizing strategic airfields. The harsh conditions, including difficult terrain and fierce enemy resistance, contributed to one of the more costly engagements in the Pacific during the war.
