Description: WWII GermanU-boat CommanderGunter HesslerKnights Cross Signed Photo Günter Hessler (14 June 1909 – 4 April 1968) was a German naval officer during WWII. He commanded the Type IBX U-boat U-107, sinking twenty-one ships on three patrols, totalling 118,822 GRT of Allied shipping. Hessler was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and was commissioned after the war to write an account of the U-boat war by the British Ministry of Defence. On June 24, 1941 Hessler was awarded for sinking 18 ships (with 105181 GRT) as commander of U-107. Of these, all but 4 were sunk during a single patrol near the Canary Islands. It was primarily for this outstanding achievement that Hessler received the Knight's Cross. This signed photo is a copy of an actual period photo. The signature is real and was most likely signed in the 1960s based on when Hessler died.
